Ameil joined Chicago Lawyers' Committee for Civil Rights in September 2021 as an Equal Justice Works Fellow sponsored by Kirkland & Ellis and AbbVie. His project centers actualizing student potential in the classroom by combatting exclusionary discipline policies at the individual and systemic levels as Chicago Public Schools (CPS) returns to in-person learning.

As a member of the Education Equity team, Ameil represents students directly and works with community and legal organizations to gain a stronger understanding of the landscape in learning and disciplinary policy. He also conducts Know Your Rights trainings for families, engages in policy advocacy, and bring complaints of right violations. Ameil holds a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of California, Berkeley, a Master of Science in Education from Johns Hopkins University, and a Juris Doctorate from the University of California, Davis
