Important Reforms Won in Police Union Contracts

Chicago Lawyers' Committee For Civil Rights is pleased to see the arbitrator’s award on the PBPA contract. The award reflects many of the fundamental reforms which the community-based Coalition for Police Contracts Accountability has been fighting for over the past three years. This is a significant first step, but much more needs to happen, including incorporation of these reforms into the FOP contract. Police union contract reforms are critical, but without Consent Decree compliance, civilian oversight and a commitment to shifting budget priorities to invest in supportive services that can replace a police presence and response, we will fall short and we will be here again.
