Chicago Redistricting 101, Translated into Five Languages

Every ten years, lawmakers across the nation redraw the boundaries of their electoral districts using data from the US Census. While federal and local voting rights laws are intended to protect communities of color from having their power diluted, typical redistricting happens in a non-transparent and non-inclusive way that can leave voters of color unable to elect the candidate of their choice.  

Chicago’s redistricting process is just beginning now, and Chicago Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights has created a handout with basic information about the process in collaboration with the Illinois Muslim Civic Coalition and the South Asian American Policy and Research Institute (SAAPRI).
